Your Journey, My Expertise

General Practitioner | Functional Medicine

I am a General Practitioner using a hybrid approach of functional and conventional medicine, practising in a way that is highly individualised and emphasises humanity in healthcare. My focus is on how nutrition, gut health, movement, sleep, cognitive and emotional patterns, social health and stress management relate to an individual’s overall physical and mental well-being. I count it a privilege to have someone share their story with me – recognising that the stories we tell carry therapeutic potential.

I believe in the importance of every individual being seen, heard, understood, acknowledged and taken seriously. As an avid listener, empath and lifelong learner, I have found and created a way of practising medicine that weaves these qualities into every consultation. I was drawn to the field of functional & integrative medicine through my own health experiences and the belief that more could be done than to simply medicate symptoms.

I use a blend of both conventional and integrative therapies as appropriate, taking the time to really get to know and understand each individual’s health journey. I especially love practising in a preventative way, to improve healthspan and not just lifespan. I endeavour to be the kind of Doctor that I would like to be treated by, recognising that medicine is both a science and an art.

More about Dr Tracy Flowers

After having completed her MBChB with first-class honours, Dr Flowers went on to work in the field of HIV/TB for Doctors Without Borders, which fuelled an already-growing passion for exploring more deeply the underlying issues affecting an individual’s health. Dr Flowers is currently completing a Fellowship in Anti-Aging and Metabolic Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and George Washington University. She is passionate about ongoing research and learning and uses this to expertly guide each person she treats.

Outside of the consultation room, Dr Flowers is a wife, mother (of two gorgeous, wild girls) and friend. Her faith and matrescence journey have significantly shaped how she cares for her patients and herself. She enjoys challenging her body by lifting weights, exploring nature, lounging in hammocks and expressing herself creatively through poetry and art.

Dr Flowers offers aesthetic consultations, and while this is not her primary service, she enjoys how this brings an element of art and creativity into her work.

FAQS:

What is functional/integrative medicine?

Functional medicine (sometimes also referred to as integrative medicine) is a lens through which health is viewed and offers another approach to managing various health conditions. It allows for more time to explore important factors in detail (such as lifestyle, environment and genetics) and seeks to address the underlying causes of symptoms rather than medicate them. It sees the person as a whole: mind, body and spirit, and does not silo the various body systems, but rather appreciates their interconnectedness. Dr Flowers incorporates both functional and conventional medicine principles as appropriate, in consultation with each individual’s needs.

Your treatment journey begins with a comprehensive initial consultation (1 hour) where Dr. Flowers takes the time to understand your health history, current concerns, and goals. This consultation is focused on gathering information from your story, examination and determination of further investigations. From there, a personalised management plan is created based on the information from the first consultation and your results, and this is explained in detail in a first follow-up consultation (45 mins – 1 hour). This is a collaborative approach and active involvement in your own treatment plan is encouraged. Follow-up appointments (30-45 mins) are scheduled as needed to monitor your progress or address any concerns.

Dr. Flowers provides a tailored management plan based on your unique needs, which will be reviewed in detail during the first follow-up appointment (typically 45 minutes – 1 hour duration). This plan is built based on the information gathered in your initial consult as well as the results of the investigations done. It covers a management strategy based on your areas of concern and is designed to address these concerns holistically and sustainably, including nutrition, sleep, stress management and other pillars of health.

Yes, online consultations are available for patients who cannot visit in person, allowing flexible access to care.

Please bring any relevant medical records, a list of current medications, and any questions or concerns you have about your health.
